TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — Commuters in Tuguegarao City may soon have free internet access while waiting for rides as the city government and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 02 plan to install Wi-Fi connections at selected tricycle operators and drivers association (TODA) terminals.

Personnel from DICT Region 02 and the city government’s Tricycle Regulation Unit (TRU) inspected various TODA terminals on October 15 to identify suitable locations for the proposed Wi-Fi installations, according to a statement posted on the local government’s official Facebook page on October 16.

The inspection focused on determining which terminals could accommodate the necessary internet connections and serve as public access points.

The planned installations will be part of DICT’s Free Wi-Fi for All program, which aims to expand public access to internet services.

Once implemented, the service could allow commuters, including students and residents, to access online information, check messages and attend to school or work-related tasks while waiting for transportation.

The initiative also supports Tuguegarao City’s efforts to become a Smart City by integrating technology into public spaces and transportation services.

The city government is partnering with DICT Region 02 to make internet access more convenient for residents, particularly those using public transport terminals.

The Wi-Fi installations remain in the planning stage, with the recent inspections intended to identify suitable locations.
