Suspect gunman who shot businessman in Tuao arrested in Rizal, Kalinga

Rizal, Kalinga – A man suspected of shooting an elderly businessman in Tuao, Cagayan was arrested by police on Tuesday, October 4.

The suspect identified by Cagayan police as “Alyas Dante”, a resident of Barangay Lallayug, Tuao, was apprehended in Barangay Babalag, Rizal, Kalinga.

The gunman was said to have shot the 70-year-old elderly while he was resting on his swing in front of his rice mill in Bagumbayan, Tuao. The victim was hit by a bullet in the face, particularly his upper lip.

The businessman is currently under medication at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

Police investigation said the suspect immediately fled the scene using a motorcycle after the incident. Moments later, the victim was ferried to the Tuao District Hospital by the responding police officers. He was then transferred to CVMC in Tuguegarao City after.

A hot pursuit operation was conducted by Tuao police in Buluan, Conner, Apayao for the immediate arrest of the suspect, but he was not found there. The police instead discovered his get-away vehicle at his residence.

On Tuesday, October 4, ‘validated information’ led to the identification of the suspect’s whereabouts. At around 8:30 of the same day, he was nabbed in Barangay Babalag, Rizal by Cagayan police through a joint operation with the Rizal police.

The suspect is charged with frustrated murder.
