Tabuk City, Kalinga - Learners, teachers, and other stakeholders of Balong National High School (BNHS) of Tabuk City now enjoy access to safe water and sanitation as Tabuk Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TAMPCO) turned over the Water System Project this July 2, 2021.

With the water system, the health and educational performance of learners and teachers will be improved, as the time to fetch or get clean and safe water outside the school shall be used for studying and work. The project will likewise allow learners to spend more time in class instead of collecting water somewhere or drinking soda and other unhealthy drinks.

The initiator of the project, Lino Anthony Banatao, narrates that the concept of the project was from the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The goal of WinS is to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment in school and enable children to be in the best condition to participate and learn in school.

“Haan kami nga pumaspasa idiay gapu ta awan ti clean water and drinking water mi,” Teacher Banatao said.

The teacher then made a proposal to TAMPCO which was later approved. TAMPCO agreed to provide the fund asked by the second party amounting to P105, 230.00.

With the proposal’s approval, the stakeholders immediately started the construction of the water system which was finished in just 15 days from April 16 this year.

‘Iti danum ket biyag, inikkan dakami ti biyag’

The School Head of BNHS, Luisita Parilla, during the turnover and acceptance ceremony, expressed gratitude to TAMPCO saying “nu awan kayo, talaga nga kakaasi ti iskwelaan nga agsapul iti danum ket kas kuna tayo, iti danum ket biyag. Inikkan dakami ti biyag.”

Parilla committed to maintain and improve the project. She said the water system serves as an inspiration to stakeholders.

TAMPCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Reverend Claudio Bagano, on his part, said the door of TAMPCO is always open to all their partners, and pledged commitment to do their responsibility as a partner.

“Han kayo nga dumawdawaten, we are partners. The management ket adda kanyayu, but we are partners. So, amin dagiay problema tayo, amin dagiay kayat tayo aramiden. From time to time, the door of TAMPCO is always open nu nya dagiay rumbeng nga aramiden tayo pay laeng tapnu ma-address ti development, because of asset, and beneficiaries,” Bagano said.

The TAMPCO CEO congratulated BNHS for being the fastest school to complete the project and is confident that the project ‘will give light to beneficiaries.’

Aside from BNHS, TAMPCO also previously funded water system projects of Sucbot National High School and Laya Elementary School as well as the ongoing construction of the stage of San Juan Elementary School.
