Tanudan conducts blood-letting for adequate blood reserve

Tanudan, Kalinga―Barangays Lower and Upper Taloctoc in the Municipality of Tanudan carried out ‘Blood Donation Activity’ through the Municipal Health Office (MHO) and Rural Health Unit (RHU) for sustainable blood collection amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Blood Donation Activity is the regular program under the MHO with an annual target of 1% of projected annual population. Due to the ongoing restrictions of the pandemic, the target schedule for every quarter was not accomplished.

Said activity was simultaneously done with the Barangay Assembly of Barangay Taloctoc this November 25.

Hence, 28 donors with a total of 14,000CC of blood was collected which was forwarded to Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) as the municipality’s blood bank.

In an interview with the MHO Blood Coordinator Feth Bangngagan, she mentioned that the blood collection is important for constituents, senior citizens, pregnant women and children, who need immediate supply of blood.

“So our blood donation activities are important for iTanudans who need blood transfusion po lalo senior citizens with severe anemia, women with massive blood loss after delivery,” she uttered.

She added that during the lockdown, RHU had been conducting blood donation from walk-in donors coming from other barangays.

Meanwhile, despite the current situation brought by the pandemic, Mayor Jaedicke Dagadag has made repeated calls for blood donors as a bag of blood could save a life.

“Iencourage ko amin dagiti kakailyan nga mabalin nga agdonate iti dara ta daytoy ket dakkel nga tulong kadagiti agkailangan nga kakailyan, relatives and friends,” he said.

LGU Tanudan is part of the Cagayan Isabela Kalinga Apayao and Batanes (CIKAB) blood network, a group of people who believes in, works for, and supports the regular voluntary blood donation. CVMC serves as the blood bank and is in charge of management to prevent blood wastages and shortage.
