Tanudan LGU commits to enhancing disaster management against calamities

Tanudan, Kalinga-The Municipal Government of Tanudan asserts its commitment to improve and innovate strategies to achieve disaster resiliency despite its deficiencies in the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.


Municipal Administrator Atty. Antonio Basungit, Jr., representative of Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag, stressed this message during the 2021 Disaster Resilience Caravan in Mabaca, Tanudan as part of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management month held on July 27.


The Municipal Administrator said that though the local government has yet to comply some documents and procure equipment to disaster management, he assured that they are prepared and willing to improve their capability for the welfare of the community specially in times of calamities.


“Am-aminen mi met ti lacking mi ta talaga a dakami ket makita mi, but we will improve with your guidance thru the Office of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management, and concerned offices,” he said.

“Dagiti comments yu ket well-noted ken welcome, so we can correct it, rectify and improve it the best way we can based on our manpower and most especially the ability that will be our basis to improve the DRRM,” Basungit added.


On the other hand, Basungit related how the municipal government wholeheartedly and physically assisted during the disaster like typhoon Ulysses and the pandemic.


Meanwhile, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Jolanta Baac affirmed their full support through the conduct of assessments in order to implore the proper and necessary programs and projects for the municipality.


“Ti assessment ditoy para iti disaster risk reduction and management ket haan kami nga umay ditoy nga agbiruk ti basul nu di ket umay kami ditoy a makatulong kamin tu met iti dadduma nga activities yu,” she expressed.


With Governor Ferdinand Tubban spearheading the activity, officials from the provincial government have been visiting the municipalities and the city to assess the disaster preparedness of each Local Disaster Risk Reduction Office in terms of disaster response equipment, relief operations, and contingency plan among others.


The assessment is conducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, together with the concerned line agencies namely DILG, DSWD, and BFP.
