Depression kills: girl in Isabela takes life by jumping off a bridge

Cabagan, Isabela - Suicide can occur at any stage of life, and one of the reasons is due to life problems.

The World Health Organization cited that suicide was the fourth leading cause of death among people ages 15–29, of which family-related issues were among its causes.

In Isabela, depression over family problems led a teenager to take her own life over the weekend by jumping off a bridge.

According to police reports, the victim, whose identity is withheld, was with her friend on the evening of Sunday, February 25, 2024, when she committed suicide.

The victim’s friend, when questioned by police, said they initially planned to go to the Cabagan-Santa Maria Bridge that day.

When they arrived at the bridge, the victim shared that she was having a family problem and that she wanted to jump off the bridge.

Thinking that the victim was just joking, she did not stop her when she headed to the other gutter of the bridge. It was then that the victim suddenly jumped.

The victim's friend immediately sought help from her acquaintances, who were the ones who informed the police.

Notified of the incident, Santa Maria police and members of MDRRMC - Santa Maria immediately proceeded to the location and conducted a search and rescue operation.

Unfortunately, the teenager was already dead when she was found by authorities on Monday, February 26.
