Covid-19 jabs continue in Tinglayan to protect residents; 881 doses to be given

Updated: Jul 31, 2021

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Vaccination is now on-going in Tinglayan as 158 vials United States (US)-made Janssen vaccine arrived in the municipality on Monday, July 26, 2021.

Also, 91 vials of Sinovac vaccine were made available and are currently being administered alongside the Janssen vaccine shots.

Each vial of the Janssen vaccine is equivalent to five doses, thus the delivered vaccine in the municipality could immunize 790 yTongrayans.

With the availability of said vaccines, Dr. Caren Liw-agan is encouraging Tinglayan citizens particularly those belonging to A1, A2 and A3 priority groups to avail of the vaccine as the administering of jabs will end on Friday.

"Open ti vaccination tayo tatta a week. Awisen mi garud amin a health workers, senior citizens ken adults with comorbidities ta umay da dituy health office tapnu mabakunaan da ta haan sayang daytoy nagadu a bakuna tayo,” the health officer said.

Liw-agan said that the Janssen shot will only be given once and with an efficacy rate of 66.3% based on clinical trials.

"Uray nu one dose ket same met lang iti effect na. It can reduce risk of symptomatic Covid-19 ken severe disease or death," she said.

The Department of Health (DOH) has delivered 13 vials of AstraZeneca vaccine for second dose of previous individuals who had their first jab; some were already used while the remaining vials will be given on the first week of August.

As recalled, Tinglayan LGU has been eyeing to attain herd immunity despite the slow vaccination roll out through the help of the national government.

The municipality has immunized about 225 individuals or just 2.36 % of the target 9,500 individuals that comprise the 70% - the total number needed assumed to enable a community to achieve herd immunity.

If the 881 doses will be successfully administered this week, the LGU will already give shots to 13 percent of their target population, in which lower percent of it are those who only receive their first dose.

The vaccination, Lactao reported, is being held at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Tinglayan.
