Tinglayan, Kalinga –The local government unit of Tinglayan disbursed a total of P1,308,000 cash to 1,308 senior citizens in the locality as of Wednesday, December 7, through its Sayaaw San Chacha program this 2022, an incentive program for senior citizens.

‘Sayaaw San Chacha’, a local term that can be translated as the manifestation or the show of love and reverence to senior citizens, is a program of the locality providing a P1,000 cash gift to a senior citizen celebrating his/her birthday.

With their contribution to the development of the locality over the years, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab said the elderlies deserve some recognition even though the amount given is just of small value.

The giving of a cash gift is done door-to-door by the LGU with representatives from the Municipal Health Office and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development.

“The LGU will personally deliver the grant to the door of senior citizens tapnu marikna da ti ayat tayo met kanyada a senior citizen. This is also an opportunity for the LGU to assess their situation, to know their health status, to know what other things we could provide for them,” Gumilab relayed.

On Wednesday, December 7, Gumilab along with Councilor Bartholome Aboli and staff from the MSWD office personally visited Barangay Butbut Proper and handed cash gifts to 57 elderlies in the community.

“We encourage them to take care of their selves so that they will have a long life and enjoy yearly benefits coming from the municipality of Tinglayan,” Gumilab said.

An ordinance regarding the cash gift was crafted in 2021 and was authored by Councilor Aboli. The implementation of the ordinance was immediately done this year.

“P2,000 kuma ngem gapu ta nagproblema tayu iti funding, nabawasan ngem nu agsubli tu diay pondo ket mabalin agsubli or manaynanayunan pay kadagiti sumarsaruno nga tawen,” said the local chief executive.
