Tinglayan, Kalinga – Are you in Tinglayan and you haven’t registered your SIM card yet? No problem, the municipal local government got you covered.

In October last year, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. signed the SIM Registration Act into law, mandating all users to register their SIM cards otherwise they will lose their number, ability to make and receive calls, and they will lose access to financial services linked to their phone number once it is deactivated.

The government originally gave mobile phone users in the country until April 26, 2023, to sign up but later extended the deadline to July 25, 2023.

The Department of Interior and Local Government Cordillera called on Local Chief Executives last year to make every effort to promote responsible SIM card use and that they should take the lead in educating their constituents on the importance of the SIM Registration Act.

Doing their part, the Tinglayan Local Government Unit headed by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab scheduled a SIM card registration activity in the municipality on June 14 – 16 at the Municipal Hall Gymnasium.

On June 09, Public Employment Service Officer Designate Bonalyn Ewad sent out letters to barangay officials, requiring them to inform their people about the activity.
