Updated: Oct 17, 2022

Tinglayan, Kalinga – The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) of Tinglayan and Barangay Poblacion emerged as the top 3 in two separate categories during the National Disaster Resilience Month 2022 celebration in the province.

Said events encourage LGUs in Kalinga to demonstrate their disaster and resilience preparedness in times of calamities.

MDRRMO Tinglayan was hailed as the top 3 in the Rescue Mini-Olympics while Poblacion got the third place in the Search for the outstanding Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC).

The awarding of recognition was held on August 2 at the Kalinga People’s Gym during the culminating activity of said month-long celebration spearheaded by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

Other winners

Tabuk City and Rizal were the first and second placers for the Olympics while Barangay Tuga in Tabuk and Barangay Taga in Pinukpuk were the top 2 winners of the search.

The Olympics is composed of various situations and disaster and calamity scenarios where the participants utilized their skills and competencies as rescue volunteers to solve them.

The search, meantime, assessed the capacity of each barangay in their disaster management, as contained in the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

The contest is part of the province’s observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month every July by virtue of Executive Order Number 29 signed on June 28, 2017.

EO No. 29 mandates the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month “throughout the country through the conduct of activities relative to building of disaster resilience.”

Meantime, with said achievement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab lauded the MDRRM office and Barangay Poblacion for their efforts and contribution, proving that Tinglayan is resilient, responsive and pro-active against disaster.
