Tinglayan, Kalinga – The establishment of a multi-purpose, three-storey building to serve as Tourism Information Center and for other purposes was proposed in this locality during the two-day Municipal Tourism Council meeting conducted last week.

During the meeting, members of the tourism council and some representatives of the PNP, Municipal Health Office, representatives from Buscalan and Butbut sub-tribe suggested for its establishment along the National Road in Sitio Mer-u, Bugnay where the Covid-19 checkpoint is located for it to serve Buscalan, Bugnay, and other barangays and nearby areas in Tinglayan.

The proposed construction of the building will start in 2022. According to Municipal Administrator Noel Macaiba, the building is estimated to be around P3.5 million.

If constructed by phase, he said, the first floor will be funded from the 2022 budget while its budget for the second and third floors will be funded in the succeeding years.

Macaiba added that the proposed building, when completed, shall serve as a tourism information center, pasalubong center and a community police assistance center (ComPAC) of the Tinglayan Municipal Police Station.

When asked regarding the ComPAC, he explained that police visibility in the area is needed for quicker response in times of untoward accidents and emergencies.

As a pasalubong center, Macaiba said the building shall serve as a display center for local products of yTongrayans to help them market and promote their products.

Local produce of Tinglayan, he cited, include soft brooms and belt from Barangay Basao, rattan baskets from Tulgao, and the peanut butter of the Bugnay locals. Tinglayan is also known for its main produce, the “Unoy” rice.

Plans are now being finalized by the local government unit for it to be included in the municipal budget for 2022.

The plans, once completed and reviewed by the Tourism Council, will be endorsed to the Sangguniang Bayan of Tinglayan for its adoption to the municipal plan.
