TRAGIC ACCIDENT: Mother and 3 kids fell into irrigation canal in Isabela; one dead

Santiago City, Isabela – A woman with her three children got into a tragic accident after a tricycle they were riding fell into an irrigation canal in Santiago City, Isabela on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

One of the woman’s children, a three-year-old died.

According to the XFM-Santiago, the tricycle, a Honda TMX 125, was driven by the toddler’s 25-year-old mother. Along with them were the child’s 5-year-old and 7-month-old siblings.

The victims are residents of Barangay Baluarte, Santiago City. Police did not disclose their identities.

In the initial investigation conducted by the Santiago PNP, the family was on their way to Barangay Villa Gonzaga when the tricycle fell into the canal in Purok 2, Barangay Patul. 

Witnesses quickly helped and notified the authorities. 

The responding rescuers and the volunteers first retrieved the mother, the 5-year-old, and the 7-month-old with bruises on their bodies. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. 

The 3-year-old was found later in a critical condition after being submerged in the water for a long time.

The rescue team rushed the child to the Southern Isabela Medical Center, but the child was not able to survive despite the efforts of the attending health professional to revive him.

As of this writing, police continue their investigation to find out why the tricycle fell into the irrigation canal.
