Trike driver plunges 200 meters into ravine in Bontoc, lives to tell the tale

Bontoc, Mountain Province – A trike driver survived a harrowing 200-meter fall into a ravine in Bayyo, Bontoc, on the morning of June 10, 2026, thanks to the swift response of rescuers.


According to the Bontoc Municipal Police Station, authorities and civilian responders were dispatched to Sitio Ambatek at around 10:15 a.m. after receiving reports that a motorist had plunged into a ravine beside the road.


Through a coordinated rescue operation, responders successfully retrieved the victim from the approximately 200-meter-deep ravine. He was immediately given first aid before being rushed to the Bontoc General Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment of injuries sustained in the fall.


The victim’s motorized tricycle was temporarily placed under the custody of the 1501st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15.


Following the incident, the Bontoc police reminded motorists to exercise extra caution, especially during the rainy season.


“Observe the proper speed limit, wear protective gear, and never drive under the influence of liquor to ensure safe travel,” the police advised.


Meanwhile, police personnel in Bontoc also responded to another road accident involving a motorist who plunged into a ravine along the Lanao Diversion Road in Poblacion, according to the Philippine National Police-Cordillera on June 11.


The victim was likewise rescued, provided first aid, and transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
