Tubban lauds DOST for holding GIS training for Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga― Governor Ferdinand Tubban commended the Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) for imparting their knowledge on geographic information system (GIS) mapping and risk assessments for the different local government units in the province.


In a message, Governor Tubban disclosed that the Local Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) had been clamoring to undergo said training as he expressed gratitude to the agency for finally making it possible.


“The more precise the data we gather, we can craft more responsive and efficient plans for our municipalities, and the city, thus, it will be more aligned to the climate change adaptability program,” he said.

Haan tu laengen a basta-basta ti panaka-ikabil ti structure ti maysa a ili, nu di ket maibasar base ti panagkasapul, wennu diay risk assessment, vulnerability ti maysa a lugar,” he added.


Tubban underscored the significance of the training-workshop for the participants, especially in providing the data, as guide for them to come up with appropriately designed structures, projects, plans and activities for the province.

“We have to ensure that every project is valued. Ta dagitoy ket aggapu ti tao. Bannug iti tao. Su, a kas datayo nga implementors, planners, it is our responsibility to provide concise and precise data as to the mapping and risk assessment ti ayan tayo, ket isu daytoyen a training ti maysa a solusyon, nu kasatnu tayo maaramid ti responsibilities tayo. We also need to be equipped with knowledge for us to provide better services and here it is. Thanks to DOST-CAR for granting our prayers” he expressed.


Aside from the LDRRMOs, the 3-day Training-Workshop on Basic GIS for Mapping and Risk Assessment is also participated by the members of the academe, planners, and personnel of the PENRO. Said training begins today, March 22, 2021, at the Davidson's Hotel, Bulanao.

Hansi G. Dinumla of DOST-CAR said training-workshop aims to enhance the capacity of local DRRM offices in disaster Prevention and mitigation particularly in understanding risk through mapping and risk assessment.


Said training–workshop was planned to be conducted in the six provinces CAR in partnership with the respective Provincial DRRM Offices. The agency has also taken all the measures compliant to COVID 19 health protocols and IATF guidelines during the training.
