Tuguegarao City, Cagayan―The City Government of Tuguegarao should give priority in vaccinating 50% of its population to help control the spread of the COVID 19 virus in this city, the OCTA Research Group recommends.

This is following the report of the University of the Philippines (UP) OCTA Research Group that Tuguegarao City is among the top 7 CoViD-19 high-risk areas with the highest Average Daily Attack Rates (ADAR) in the country.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office reports that if 50% of the population of areas classified as high-risk are vaccinated, there is a high probability that the spread of CoViD-19 virus will be suppressed.

As of 2015 census, the city has a population of 153,502 people.

This strategy has been effective in many countries around the world based on the OCTA Research study.

Based on monitoring released by OCTA Research, the National Capital Region, Santiago City, Baguio City, Cainta town in Rizal province, Cebu City, and Imus City have high Average Daily Attack Rates (ADAR) to the said virus.

Of the seven areas, Tuguegarao city has the highest ADAR hitting 21.63 per day, even higher compared to NCR at 14.54, Santiago City with 17.56, 11.44 in Cainta, 9.35 in Cebu City and 9.21 in Imus City.

Meanwhile, an estimated 15.96 million doses of the vaccine has to be given to 7.98 million people to achieve the expected herd immunity in high -risk areas, while 7.3 million doses in 40% of the population and 3.08 million doses in 30% of the population.

Before the end of the year, about 30 to 35 million vaccines should be given nationwide for the complete control of the disease.

So far, only 4,097,425 doses of the vaccine have been given to Filipinos from March to May 22, 2021.

As of May 24, the city’s CoViD-19 confirmed cases have reached 5,662, of which 518 are active cases, 5,506 recoveries and 88 deaths.
