Wangal, Benguet gets P3.5M infra development for vegetable processing facility

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

Benguet, Philippines – A budget amounting to P3.5 million was recently allocated for infrastructure development as part of the proposed establishment of a vegetable processing facility at the Benguet Cold Chain in Wangal, Benguet.

The Public Information Office of the Province of Benguet reported that said infrastructure development is expected to start this year.

The main aims of the project are to pave for the Upgrading of the Capability of Existing Distribution Centers in the Delivery of Fresh and Semi-Processed Agricultural Products in the Supply Chain: Focusing on Packaging Technology and Logistics.

This will be made possible through the joint undertaking of the provincial government and Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

In a related video, Governor Melchor Diclas informed that the building will house the packaging facility to ‘help add value to the vegetables being produced by farmers.

It will also serve as a learning area for interested farmers who are willing to learn other technology to produce high-value products from harvests.

“The packaging facility helps the farmers (for) the semi-process and easily markets the fresh vegetable, ready to cook and ready to eat. The benefits of this project are that producers could now directly sell at the high-end stores like hotels, groceries, and markets,” Diclas added.

Meanwhile, another P2.7 million improvement project is currently ongoing at the ‘Bagsakan Area’ of the province’s Cold Chain.

Upon the completion of the project, DOST will provide the necessary equipment and facilities to be installed and be used for the operation of the vegetable processing facility.
