What’s new with P1.2B Cabagan-Santa Maria bridge ?: TWO lanes for single motorcycles now open but one way system remains for trikes, PUVs, and light vehicles

Isabela, Philippines – Single motorcycle riders may now pass freely on the reopened P1.2-billion bridge in Isabela after two lanes were opened on April 7, allowing them to travel without passing through the existing one-way traffic system.

The bridge remains a major link between the towns of Cabagan and Santa Maria, serving hundreds of daily commuters, including workers, students, and transport vehicles.

It can be recalled that the 990-meter bridge collapsed in February 2025 after a dump truck—estimated to be carrying 102 tons of boulders—crossed it, injuring six individuals. The bridge partially reopened to motorists on September 2025 through a community-led effort, and was later fully reopened on March 2, 2026.

Due to the high volume of users and the one-way system, traffic is often moderate to heavy, causing delays, especially during rush hours. Under the new traffic rules, motorcyclists are no longer required to stop at designated points on the bridge, helping improve traffic flow. The one-way system, however, still applies to tricycles, public utility vehicles, and other light vehicles.

The key infrastructure continues to undergo traffic adjustments following its recent reopening, with officials expecting that the new setup will help reduce traffic congestion and improve overall travel conditions in the area.

The opening of exclusive lanes is also expected to ease congestion and enhance mobility on the bridge. With a separate passage now available, motorcycle riders are likely to experience shorter travel times and a more convenient commute.
