Woman dies in vehicular accident due to corn drying on the road

Updated: Oct 3, 2023

Isabela, Philippines – Drying corn, palay, or other produce along the highway has long been banned to safeguard motorists from untoward incidents. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reiterates this. Previously, the agency cited Section 23 of Presidential Decree No. 17 prohibiting such acts.

However, many are not adhering to the order or law, causing mishaps.

Recently, a 47-year-old woman died due to the corn being dried on the road.

Lilibeth Guino, a native of Candelaria, Quezon Province, was then on board a tricycle with her child.

When they arrived in Barangay Nagcampegan, Cauayan City, Isabela, they turned at the side of the road to give way to the oncoming vehicle.

Guino, however, did not notice that the tricycle drove over a stone being used as a barricade for the drying of corn, causing her to fall and hit her head on the ground. Eventually, this led to her death despite the first aid given by rescuers.
