LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Cordillerans with cleft lip and palate, burn scars, hand deformities and selected orthopedic conditions can seek screening for a reconstructive surgical mission scheduled at Benguet General Hospital from November 9 to 20.

Led by Interplast Australia in partnership with Benguet General Hospital and the Provincial Government of Benguet, the mission aims to provide eligible patients with specialized procedures to address deformities and conditions that may limit movement and daily activities.

Registration and screening are being conducted at the provincial hospital from October 12 to November 6 on regular working days, excluding weekends and holidays.

Interested patients aged three months and older may visit the hospital’s Social Service Office to request a referral to the Ear, Nose and Throat or Surgery Outpatient Department for assessment.

The mission will cover cleft lip and palate repair, treatment of burn scars and contractures, hand surgery, selected orthopedic procedures and selected skin cases.

However, registration does not guarantee surgery. The mission’s medical team will determine eligibility based on each patient’s condition, medical fitness and the procedures available under the program.

Some patients may also need rehabilitation, therapy or further treatment after surgery.

The mission seeks to bring specialized reconstructive care closer to communities, particularly patients who face difficulties and expenses traveling to larger hospitals for specialist consultations and treatment.

Interplast Australia works with partner hospitals and healthcare professionals to provide reconstructive surgical services and support local medical training. Its partnership with Benguet General Hospital also provides opportunities for visiting specialists and local health workers to share knowledge and experience.
