Iguig, Cagayan – The dreams of a 17-year-old student came to a tragic end after he died in a collision involving a motorcycle and a public utility vehicle (PUV) on Thursday, June 4, in Iguig, Cagayan.

Police identified the victim under the alias “Samson,” a resident of Zone 4, Barangay Hacienda Intal, Baggao, Cagayan.

Based on a report from the Iguig Municipal Police Station, Samson was riding as a back rider on a Euro 150 motorcycle with plate number 762 BCN driven by a 21-year-old fellow student identified by the alias “Angelo.”

The other vehicle involved was a white Foton PUV driven by a 32-year-old man identified as “Jake.”

Police investigation revealed that both vehicles were traveling along the National Highway in Barangay Baculud, Iguig, when the accident occurred at around 5:10 a.m.

Authorities said the PUV allegedly changed lanes and made a U-turn toward the southbound lane, resulting in a collision with the oncoming motorcycle.

Angelo told investigators that he failed to anticipate the sudden maneuver of the PUV. He reportedly applied the brakes and attempted to avoid the vehicle but was unable to prevent the crash.

The impact left both Samson and Angelo seriously injured.

Members of the 517 Rescue Team immediately responded and transported the victims to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City.

Unfortunately, Samson was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, while Angelo survived and is currently recovering from injuries.

Meanwhile, Jake is now under police custody for proper documentation and disposition. He is expected to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injuries, and damage to property.

Following the incident, police reminded motorists to exercise extra caution when changing lanes or making U-turns to help prevent road crashes and avoid further loss of life.
