Tabuk City, Kalinga – Nothing can stop young fighters from Tabuk City, Kalinga, from bagging the highly-sought Palaro medals after their win to get gold and silver medals.

Andrea Faye Camide, 14, and Aldrich Dei Amangao, 13, were given the chance to participate in the Kickboxing Competition at the 2025 Palarong Pambansa by the Samahang Kickboxing Ng Pilipinas, the national governing body for kickboxing. This year, kickboxing is considered a demo or exhibition sport and is yet to be included as one of the official contested events in the national sports festival in the country.

Andrea, who is an incoming grade 9 student at Agbannawag National High School, participated in the kickboxing point fighting 46-kilogram category, where she snatched the gold medal. Aldrich, who is also an incoming grade 9 at the San Pablo Integrated School, meantime, clinched a silver in the 47-kilogram category.

With Kickboxing being a demo sport, Andrea and Aldrich were not covered by the delegation budget, according to their coach Enrile Amangao. In spite of the constraints, the two participated in the Palaro and displayed their skills in combative sports even if it means having to sleep at the terminal to cut costs.

“Kanya kanya piman gastos, haan kami pay en nag-transient tapno makatipid sunga nag-night trip kami from Tuguegarao to Laoag City, ket idiay dan piman terminal naturog ket bigat na laban,” Amangao narrated to GURU Press Cordillera.

With their passion and dedication to kickboxing, Andrea and Aldrich managed to grab the much-sought medals – proving that when people want something, they have to show up no matter what and get that very thing they aspire to have.
