2 rebel recruiters force riders to give them free ride, end up arrested in Apayao


Apayao, Philippines – Two suspected rebels whose work involves recruitment were arrested on June 12, 2022 on board motorcycles whose owners they forced to take to Tuao Cagayan.


Suspects ‘Ka Cris’, 36, a native of San Mateo, Isabela and ‘Ka Zin’, 30, a resident of Langos, Malabon City were nabbed by the police and the military after they were alerted of their presence in Sitio Iyapan, Kabugao.


Authorities then set up a checkpoint in Conner where they flagged down the motorcycles described in the information they received, the Apayao Police Provincial Office reported.


When the two were heading towards Conner-Tuguegarao Road, one of the riders from the motorcycles alighted and sought help from the personnel at the checkpoint. He revealed that they were coerced by the suspects to go with them to Tuao, Cagayan.


Ka Cris and Ka Zin were brought to the Conner Municipal Police Station and through former rebels, the two were identified to be members of the Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC), Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (KLG) - North Abra under the Command of Florencio Malaga Baloga.


Confiscated in their possession includes 5 bags and other belongings and documents believed to be utilized in recruiting people to join their movement.
