Baguio City, Philippines – A toddler is the youngest documented rape victim in the City of Baguio from January to November 2022, Baguio City Police Office disclosed.

According to Philippine Information Agency – Baguio, Police Director Francis Bulwayan revealed that their office has recorded a total of 87 rape cases since January this year.

Forty-nine or the majority of the figure are statutory rape or sexual contact with someone below the age of consent. Next to this is incestuous rape or forced sexual activity among family members with 16 cases.

Police Colonel Bulwayan added that the youngest among the victims is a 2-year-old, while the oldest is 47.

The youngest among the suspects, meanwhile, is 10 years old and the oldest is 77.

Bulwayan noted that most rape cases happened because parents or guardians tend to let their guard down due to too much trust in their family, relatives, and the people around them.

In the entire Philippines, there were a total of 7,197 rape cases monitored by the Philippine National Police from January to November 2022. This figure indicated that at least 22 cases are being reported every day in the country since the start of the year.
