Isabela, Philippines – A total of twenty ladies working as entertainers at certain bars in the province have been tested positive with Sexually Transmitted Infection during the vaginal screening done by the Cauayan City Health Office 1 recently.

These individuals were said to be working at a bar in Luna and in Cauayan City, Isabela.

City Health Office I Coordinator Delia Gonzalvo told iFM Cauayan in an interview that they have tested around 60 individuals working as entertainers recently. Unfortunately, 20 of them are with STI.

Most of the ladies, she said, are new entertainers at certain bars. She added that these individuals are within ages 18 – 35 years old.

The Health Office prescribed medicines and advised said entertainers to return to the health center for further tests should they fail to recover within 10 days.

According to Gonzalvo, among the factors they observe why there are individuals getting STIs are still due to engagement in unprotected sexual intercourse.

She encourages the public who experiences symptoms of STI or HIV to have themselves checked at the health center.

Meantime, in the Philippines, there were 875 confirmed Human Immunodeficiency Virus -positive individuals in January 2022. This brought the number of individuals who are infected with HIV in the country since 1984 to 95,212.
