21-yr.-old caught transporting P.6M marijuana in Tinglayan

Tabuk City, Kalinga – An attempt by a young man to transport suspected marijuana from Tinglayan to Tabuk City was intercepted by the operatives earlier this week.


On June 11, police authorities in Tinglayan were dispatched to verify a tip from a concerned citizen about a suspicious individual described to be ferrying dried marijuana leaves from Bugnay, Tinglayan bound to the province’s capital.


Responding to the information, the Tinglayan police found the subject person in Barangay Poblacion. But just as they approached him, the operatives claimed to have noticed that the said individual’s bag was partially opened where they saw suspected contraband.


Upon inspection, they discovered five bricks of suspected marijuana weighing approximately 5,000 grams and is estimated to be worth P600,000.


The suspect, a 21-year-old (his name withheld by the police), was brought to the Tinglayan Municipal Police Station for documentation prior to the filing of charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Tinglayan Chief of Police, PCapt. Leonardo Ngaya-an thanked the community and the barangay officials for their cooperation with the government’s campaign against illegal drugs which led to the arrest of the suspect and confiscation of the contraband.
