Isabela, Philippines – A 22-year-old student attending Misa de Gallo in Cauayan City was killed in a brawl in Barangay District 3 early morning of December 20, 2022.
The brawl happened around 4:30 a.m. when the victim, Arvin Peralta, and his friend, Marcus Lansangan, 18, went out of the church to buy a cigarette.
Cauayan Police, as reported by 98.5 i-FM Cauayan, disclosed that Peralta and Lansangan happened to meet five young men whom they had previous misunderstandings with.
The encounter led to a fistfight between Peralta and Joshua Rhyne Ong, one of the five suspects. Ong, however, allegedly lost the fight and backed off.
Ten minutes after the first encounter, the five suspects came back already armed with a knife.
Ong allegedly attacked Peralta but the latter was able to dodge and only sustained a slight cut on his body. Peralta was able to get away from Ong, however, the latter’s 17-year-old sibling ‘James’ Ong ran after him and stabbed him on his right side.
The 17-year-old suspect was likewise said to have injured Lansangan.
The 5 suspects were able to escape while the two victims were rushed to the hospital. Peralta, however, passed away due to the deep stab wound he sustained.
