Ilagan City, Isabela – A 22-year-old man died after drowning in the Pinacanauan River in Barangay Baculud, Ilagan City, Isabela, on Tuesday, June 9.

Police identified the victim as Andrei Dayrit, a native of San Fernando, Pampanga, who was reportedly residing in Barangay San Vicente, Ilagan City.

Based on police reports cited by local media outlets, Dayrit went to Baculud Bridge with two minors at around 2:50 p.m. to swim in the river.

Upon reaching the area, he allegedly jumped from the bridge into a deeper portion of the river.

Moments later, his companions noticed that he was struggling to swim and stay afloat. He eventually disappeared from sight after submerging beneath the water.

The two minors immediately attempted to rescue Dayrit but were unsuccessful.

The incident was reported to authorities, prompting personnel from Rescue 1124 and barangay officials to respond to the scene.

A search and retrieval operation was immediately launched. After more than an hour of searching, rescuers recovered the victim's body from the river.

Dayrit was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Police said no foul play was indicated based on the investigation and witness accounts gathered at the scene.

Following the incident, authorities reminded the public to exercise caution when swimming in rivers and other bodies of water, particularly in areas with deep sections and strong currents.
