Abra, Philippines – Some 25 Farmer Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) under the Tipon ti Umili Para iti Panangsalwad ti Naparswaan (TIPON) in Tubo, Abra were granted support to livelihood and agricultural development projects worth P8.4 million.

The grant under the Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program of the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera was turned over to recipients during the opening of the 12th Begnas Festival in said town on Monday last week.

Among those given to the farmer groups include technical interventions for various productions such as coffee, rice, sugarcane, bananas, vegetables, chicken eggs, goats, cattle, carabaos, and native ginger production.

Likewise, social capability-building activities were administered by the agency to enhance the farmers’ organizational responsibilities and commitments, added the department in a press release.

To recall, 616 rice farmers in Tubo were provided financial aid in 2021 and 782 in 2022 through Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA).

Representing Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey, Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, Atty. Jennilyn M. Dawayan assured continued support to the agricultural priority projects to the said sector in the locality.

“Granting your interventions is just one portion of the 4K Program but the intensification of your collaboration and relationship with one another is through capability building activities which will really define the success of your projects in support of your Ancestral Domain,” she said in his inspirational talk.

Vice Mayor Guilbert P. Balangan acknowledged the assistance of the department and partner agencies to the Maeng tribe who are mostly engaged in farming.
