26-year-old Police Cordillera killed in Northern Samar laid to rest

Tadian, Mt. Province — Patrolman Franklin Marquez, the Cordilleran police, who was killed during an armed encounter with the New People’s Army in Northern Samar, was finally laid to rest this November 27.


Marquez was buried in his hometown in Balaoa, Tadian, Mountain Province.


The 26-year-old fallen police was currently undergoing a Special Action Force Commando Course when they were alerted about the presence of armed men in Barangay Lonoy, Gamay, Northern Samar on November 20.


They responded to the alert and had a firefight with the rebels.


During the encounter, Marquez along with Patrolman Jimmy Caraggayan from Annafunan East, Tuguegarao City were killed after they were hit by an improvised explosive device detonated by the rebels.

Marquez’ body was brought back first to his mother unit, the First Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Company at the Camp Major Dennis Molintas in Buguias, Benguet. A Eucharistic mass was conducted for him before he was brought home to Tadian, Mt. Province.


In honor of the young police, Cordillera Police Regional Director Police Brigadier General Ronald Lee personally visited Marquez’ remains in his home on November 23 and handed financial assistance to the bereaved family.


Meantime, the other 4 police who were wounded in the encounter also received financial assistance from the PNP and were conferred with ‘Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting’.
