3 dead, 1 injured in tragic Bokawkan Road accident in Baguio

Baguio City, Philippines - Three people died while another was injured after a delivery van crashed into several vehicles along Bokawkan Road, Baguio City, in the early morning of Thursday, May 29, 2025.

According to the Baguio City Public Information Office, Police Colonel Ruel Tagel of the Baguio City Police Office reported to Mayor Benjamin Magalong that the accident involved four vehicles - a Forward Closed Van, a Hyundai Tucson, a Mitsubishi L300, and a Toyota Tamaraw FX.

The driver and two passengers of the van died on the spot, while the driver of the Tamaraw FX sustained injuries and is currently recuperating at a hospital.

Initial investigation revealed that the van was speeding and swerving downhill towards Agrix when it hit the Tamaraw FX, pushing it into the front glass door of a nearby grocery store.

The accident did not stop there as the van continued crashing into traffic signs and other vehicles parked by the roadside.

Notified of the incident, the responding authorities took about an hour to retrieve the victims trapped inside the van. The rescuers had to use cutting tools to get them out.

The casualties were brought to the Baguio Memorial Chapel. Their identities, along with the injured one, were not disclosed by the police.

As of this writing, the city’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is yet to determine the cause of the tragic crash, although human error has been considered the possible reason.

Meanwhile, BCPO Police Station 2, in a phone interview with Guru Press Cordillera, reminded motorists to make sure they are well-rested when driving/riding at night or early morning to avoid such accidents from happening.

“Dapat adda koma ti usto nga turog da wenno inana bago da agbiahe ti rabie ta possible nga baka nakaturog diay driver diay van. Nu haan kayo pamilyar diay dalan, karo dita Bokawkan Road ta adun talaga aksidenten dita, ket aginayad tayo latta koma tapno maiwasan ti aksidente,” the said police station relayed.
