31-year-old woman in Abra hit by stray bullet on New Year's eve

Tabuk City, Kalinga - A 31-year-old woman from Abra was injured by a stray bullet during the New Year's Eve celebration while at home.


The police identified the victim as April Balicaw Guetang from Bangued, Abra. According to the report, she was hit on her right leg and is now recovering at a health facility.


Meantime, the Department of Health Cordillera said they logged a total of seven fireworks-related injuries in the Region as of January 3. This is 167% higher compared to the New Year celebration in 2021.

Of the seven injuries due to pyrotechnic devices, 2 cases each were recorded in Abra, Baguio City, Benguet, and one case in Ifugao. Additionally, six had blast or burn injuries while one had an eye injury.


Also, 4 of the 7 victims were males, and that 4 of them have been hurt due to illegal firecrackers.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police Cordillera also reported that a total of 701 firecrackers and boga amounting to P24,960 have been confiscated as a result of the Firecrackers Ban Ordinance implementation.


Overall, the country observed a decline in firecracker-related injuries with 85 cases recorded from December 21, 2021, to January 1, 2022. The said incident is 11% lower than the 96 cases recorded last year.
