31-yr.-old Agta woman gives birth on road in Cagayan; Mother and baby in stable condition

Cagayan, Philippines – A woman in Cagayan gave birth on the road amid the onslaught of Tropical Cyclone ‘Crising’ and the Southwest Monsoon on Friday, July 18.

 

Since Wednesday, July 16, major parts of Northern Luzon had been subjected to incessant rain and heavy downpours due to Tropical Storm Crising and the Habagat with Cagayan on red status on July 18, indicating widespread incidents of severe flooding and landslides.

While the two phenomena were ravaging the Province of Cagayan on Friday, Joan Cepeda, 31, and a member of the Agta Community residing in Ariwoden, Sta. Teresita was due to welcome her baby. The 31-year-old mom cannot make it to the hospital just in time to deliver her baby and gave birth on the road. 

 

The punong barangay called the police to ask for assistance in ferrying the woman to the hospital amid the flooding which Sta. Teresita cops immediately responded to and came to rush the woman to the Municipal Health Center.

 

Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported that the mom and her baby are healthy and in a stable condition following medical intervention.
