Updated: Sep 19, 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – A 36-year-old construction worker was hospitalized after he was hacked in the head and right shoulder by his co-worker inside their barracks in Baguio City on Friday, September 16.

The victim and the suspect are both residents of Camp 7, Baguio City but are from different provinces.

The victim – Markey Genteroles from Asingan, Pangasinan, who is now in stable condition was hacked by his co-worker using an ax with no handle and a bolo after a heated argument.

Police report revealed that the two were having a drinking spree when the incident happened.

While drinking, a misunderstanding ensued between the victim and his co-worker - Renante Denalo Varona, 43 from Dapdap Alangalang, Leyte, which made the suspect grab the ax and threw at the victim, hitting him in the head.

The victim tried to run away from the suspect but the latter caught him and injured him yet again, this time, using a bolo wounding him on his right shoulder.

After being notified about the incident, Baguio police immediately arrested the suspect together with his live-in-partner.

Baguio police said they nabbed the live-in partner as she became an accessory to the crime because of helping Varona hide the bolo used in the crime.
