4,221 BSKE hopefuls filed candidacy in Kalinga



Tabuk City, Kalinga – A total of 4,221 aspirants in Kalinga submitted their certificates of candidacy during the weeklong filing ahead of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).


Based on the report from Commission on Elections – Kalinga, 377 are seeking the post of Punong Barangay, 2,374 for sangguniang barangay members, 369 for SK chairperson, and 1,101 for SK members.

Of the seven towns and one city in the province, the city of Tabuk with 43 villages has the highest number of candidates, where 115 are fighting for Punong Barangay, 789 for Barangay Kagawad, 119 for SK Chair, and 465 for SK Kagawad.


Pinukpuk ranks second with 23 barangays and 607 hopefuls – 57 for Punong Barangay, 349 for barangay kagawad, 59 for SK chair, and 142 for SK members followed by Tinglayan with 20 villages and 519 aspirants – 47, 293, 45, 134, while Rizal with 14 barangays has 456 hopefuls – 38, 248, 35, 135.


In Tanudan with 16 barangays, 380 filed their certificates of candidacies - 44, 210, 39, 87; Balbalan with 14 villages has 305 hopefuls - 32, 196, 28, 49; Pasil with 14 barangays has 279 aspirants - 28, 164, 27, 60; and Lubuagan with 9 barangays has 187 hopefuls - 16, 125, 17, 29.

Aspiring politicians are warned not to engage in premature campaigning such as promoting their advocacies on various platforms, hanging posters on streets, or producing other election campaign-related materials.


Campaign period for the 2023 BSKE will run from Oct. 19 to 28 only.


Premature campaigning may lead to disqualification of the candidate and a possible filing of cases to the courts for violation of election-related cases.
