Baguio City, Philippines – A 54-year-old janitor was found dead in a canal beside his barracks at a public school in Baguio City on the morning of Monday, July 6, with authorities investigating the exact cause and circumstances of his death.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed by police pending the investigation, was a stay-in maintenance worker and janitor at Pinsao Pilot Elementary School.

According to a police report cited by local media outlets, the victim's body was discovered by the school's security guard at around 6:00 a.m.

The guard reportedly began searching for the janitor after noticing that he had not yet reported for work or logged his attendance through the school's biometric system. He then proceeded to the victim's barracks, where he found the body lying in a canal beside the building.

Personnel from the Baguio City Emergency Medical Services immediately responded to the scene but declared the victim dead on arrival.

Initial investigation suggests that the 54-year-old may have accidentally slipped or tripped while descending the stairs leading to his barracks, causing him to fall into the canal.

However, investigators emphasized that this remains only an initial assessment and that the exact cause of death has yet to be established.

As of this writing, authorities are awaiting the results of further investigation to determine what transpired before the victim's death.

Police have not ruled out other possible circumstances, and the case remains under investigation.

This is a developing story.
