88 shelters awarded to families in Bontoc who lost homes due to calamities

Bontoc, Mt. Province – A day after the turn over of 59 shelters amounting to more than P4 million pesos in Barangay Can-eo, Bontoc, a following turn over ceremony was done on Tuesday, June 1, benefiting 29 families in Barangay Dalican, Bontoc.


This was made possible through the Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in cooperation with the local government unit, other stakeholders, and the beneficiaries.


Through the project, houses with structurally strong shelter units that can withstand up to 220 kph wind velocity and earthquakes up to intensity 4 of the Richter scale were made available for the beneficiaries, who previously lost their homes due to calamities.

The building of said houses, according to DSWD-CAR intend to provide safer homes to families residing in high disaster risk areas through relocating them to safer grounds.


Further, said project also targets to strengthen the values of self-reliance and 'Bayanihan' in the community through the collaborative implementation of the project.


The turn-over ceremony, meantime, was held with the presence of Disaster Response and Management OIC- Division Chief Marifil Jugal, Bontoc Vice-Mayor Eusebio Kabluyen, DSWD FOCAR staff, LGU Bontoc staff and the beneficiaries.

Areas of where the houses should be built


As one of the requirements of the shelter program, the areas where the houses should be built according to the implementing agency must not be prone to hazards and be certified as a safe area by DENR- Mines and Geo-Science Bureau (MGB), DOSTsPHILVOCS/PAGASA.


Likewise, access to transportation is also required, while a minimum of 60 sq. meter home lot/shelter unit shall be allotted in the resettlement areas. Space for path walks and other community facilities shall also be provided.
