6 houses in Sabangan, Mt. Province razed by fire Sunday; cost of damage reached P2.7M

Sabangan, Mt. Province - Instead of enjoying their weekend, five families in Sabangan Mt. Province met a disastrous event after their houses were blazed in the early hours of Sunday, September 8.

The Mt. Province Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the fire broke out in a residential area in Sitio Liwang, Barangay Losad, Sabangan, at 2:56 a.m. of said day.

Residents in the area were woken up by the fire and did their best to put it out while some of them reported the matter to the authorities.

Upon notification, members of the BFP Sabangan, Capinitan, Balili, Bauko, and Bontoc teamed up and proceeded to the site immediately to extinguish the fire.

The firefighters declared fire out at 5:15 AM.

The same report disclosed that no one died or was hurt during the incident. However, the fire razed six houses and affected five families.

The initial cost of damage reached P2.7 million while the cause of the blaze is still being investigated by the authorities.

Assistance to the victims


In response to the destructive incident, the DSWD, PDRRMC, and the Provincial Local Government Unit of Mountain Province immediately took action and provided the displaced families with food packs, sleeping kits, kitchen kits, and hygiene kits.

In addition, financial aid was granted to the victims - P10,000 each was given to those whose houses were completely destroyed, while P5,000 each to families with partially damaged houses.
