Updated: Aug 28, 2023

Baguio City, Philippines - Seven journalists in Baguio City were recognized by the local government for their environmental preservation and protection advocacy.

The awardees include Ramon ‘Mondacs’ S. Dacawi, Jose Nicholas ‘Pepot’ Ilagan, Wilfredo ‘Willy’ Cacdac, Geronimo ‘Gerry’ Evangelista, Cecile C. Afable, Domescio Cimatu, and Narciso ‘Nars’ Padilla.

The Baguio City Public Information Office on Friday, August 25, said the works and arts of said journalists were instrumental in maintaining the city’s good state of the environment, thus the presentation of said award.

Meantime, Dacawi, Ilagan, Cimatu, and Cacdac were said to have been instrumental in the launching of the city’s famous Eco Walk program in 1992, an initiative cited by the United Nations Environmental Program as the best one for children.

Represented by their families, certificates of recognition were given to them during the recently concluded opening rites of the city’s re-greening mural along Legarda Road.

In line with the Arts Month celebration, said activity aims to encourage the public to help preserve and protect the environment and it likewise calls for the people to unite to strengthen the 'greening' of the city.

Meantime, certificates of appreciation were also given to the private sector for contributing to the completion of the program, particularly the officers and members of the Chamber of Real Estate Builders Association (CREBA) Baguio-Benguet chapter, the Sin-Agi artists, Davis Paints, and Land Bank of the Philippines, among others.
