848 quake-affected families in Lubuagan receive aid


Lubuagan, Kalinga – Distribution of relief assistance to families in Lubuagan affected by the Magnitude 7.0 Northern Luzon earthquake on July 27 is ongoing, Lubuagan Information Office reported.


The aid comprises relief packs, mostly food to help families get by while recovering from the effects of the shake that surprised many municipalities in Luzon.


As per assessment by the Local Government Unit of Lubuagan headed by Mayor Joel Tagaotao, about 848 families were affected by the quake in the 9 barangays of the municipality.

The figure is said to be equivalent to around 2,919 individuals.


According to Information Officer Daryl Abayon, the distribution of the relief supplies from the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera and the Kalinga provincial government started on July 30.


He said 92 families affected by the disaster in Barangays Dangoy, Poblacion, and Mabilong already received their relief packs on an earlier date, while other families in Barangays Upper Uma, Lower Uma, and Western Uma received theirs on August 2.

Meantime, the Lubuagan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Municipal Engineering Office documented structural cracks at the Lubuagan Multi-Purpose Building; Lubuagan Municipal Police Station; Sukiap, Tanglag Day Care Center Building; and Rural Health Unit Building. Several roads were also closed due to landslides and erosions.


During the quake, there were four individuals who were reported to have been injured in Poblacion, Antonio Canao, and Mabilong barangays.
