Tabuk City, Kalinga - Some 946 poor but deserving students in Kalinga are set to join the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) program of the Department of Labor and Employment come April, 2022.

SPES is an employment-bridging program of DOLE in partnership with employers to provide temporary employment to students to augment their family’s income as well as ensure they are able to pursue their education.

In an interview with Anthony Luminang of DOLE-Kalinga, he explained that the department's regional office has approved some 946 pledges out of the 1,344 pledges submitted by the different Local Government Units in the province due to budget constraint.

The DOLE's regional office has budgeted P3,682,881.83 for this year's SPES program in the province.

The said amount represents the 40 percent share of the government for the students' salary, depending on the municipalities class category.

The labor officer added that fifth class participating municipalities enjoy 60 percent government share, the fourth class receives 50 percent share, and third up to first-class remain at 60/40 percent salary scheme sharing.

"Idiay RA 1097, diay fifth class nga municipality ket dakdakkel ti bayadan ti DOLE. 60 percent ti i-shoulder ti DOLE. Fourth class municipalities ket 50/50. From third class ket diyay usual nga 60/40," Luminang said.

In this year's SPES program, beneficiaries will work for 20 days, which will start this April once the participating LGUs received a notice of deployment from the DOLE's regional office after submitting a placement.

"Nu adda ma-isubmit nga placement kadagitoy na-approve, ti implementation na ket April onwards. Agited ti region iti notice of deployment," Luminang explained.
