Alfonso Lista, Ifugao – After the installation of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) circular fish cage at Magat Dam reservoir, the Sto. Domingo Fisherfolk and Farmers Association of Alfonso Lista in Ifugao harvested almost one metric ton of tilapia.

This is by far one of the largest and most successful yields of a fisherfolk organization in the said municipality.

It can be remembered that the organization received units of circular fish cage, motorized fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) boats on December 11, 2021.

The fish cage, according to Regional Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, aimed at maximizing the use of the Magat water resource while sustaining fisherfolk livelihood for increased production and income.

The boats, on the other hand, were replacement for the wooden made ‘bancas.’ The fish farmers proved their capability as they yielded successful harvest on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

Witnessing the fisherfolks reap the fruit of their sacrifices, Municipal Mayor Edralin B. Alipio of Alfonso Lista through BFAR-Cordillera expressed his delight to have been part of the said effort.

"I was here, I witnessed everything from the launching and stocking last December. Today, I saw how these fisherfolks reap their harvest as a result of a successful project," Alipio said.

Meanwhile, the association’s President, Diosdado Bernal expressed gratitude to the regional fish bureau for extending their assistance that contributed to their success.

"Kadatayo nga beneficiaries, kailangan nga amin nga members ket maki-cooperate iti amin nga activities ti association ken gobyerno tapnu agtultuluy ti pakinabang ti fisherfolks iti daytoy nga proyekto ken mapasayaat ti taray ti organisasyon tayo," Bernal stated through PIA-Ifugao.

The harvested tilapia were said to have been transported to Mt. Province through the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Fish on Wheels as the government's strategy to help market the produce or products of fisherfolks and farmers.
