Lubuagan, Kalinga – The people in Barangay Mabongtot no longer have to risk their lives by crossing the old and unsafe Ambalbalan Cable Footbridge after its reconstruction.

According to Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Ailleen Alya-on, the reconstruction and improvement of the said bridge is among the completed projects on December 30, 2021.

This month, a visit to the bridge to see how it is being used has proved that it is safe for crossing.

Alya-on said that the Ambalbalan bridge is the main entrance to Barangay Mabongtot and that while there are other paths the people could utilize, they are too far away. The footbridge is the nearest or shortest way to go to the center of Lubuagan.

She added that due to its age, the bridge had worn out and became unsafe for the people to cross. There was also a case of an individual who fell from the bridge while crossing.

With this, the foot bridge has to be improved and reconstructed. In 2020, an amount of P5,278,950.29 funding was allotted for the project.

Alya-on mentioned that P4,778,950.29 of the said figure came from the Local Government Support Fund and the P500,000 came from the Local Government Unit of Lubuagan.
