Anti-tank mines, rifle grenades recovered from old NPA camp in Balbalan

Balbalan, Kalinga – Anti-tank mines and rifle grenades were recovered at a vegetated area in Balantoy, Balbalan, which is believed to be an old camp of a Communist Terrorist Group operating in the municipality.

The said mines and belongings were seized after the military and police launched a joint security and combat operation, the Kalinga Police Provincial Office stated in a press release.

According to the report, the operation stemmed from a piece of information given by a resident of Poswoy, Balbalan, about an improvised explosive devise seen in an old NPA camp in Sitio Ligayan, in Barangay Balantoy.

Responding to the tip, the army and the police started the operation from Sitio Pasingan in Barangay Poswoy towards Sitio Ligayan in Balantoy, where then they discovered 4 anti-tank mines and 3 rifle grenades.

Additionally, the operating personnel also recovered various medical supplies and other belongings of the rebels, which include sets of anesthesia, syringes, bandages, IV fluids, dextrose hose, a set of surgical kit,s and documents.

Meantime, two rebels were reported to have surrendered recently in Sitio Kapanikian in Barangay Camalog, Pinukpuk. They are members of the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) AMPIS and are included in the list of the Philippine National Police’s periodic status report.
