Rizal, Kalinga – Around 600 rice farmers in Rizal, Kalinga recently received their free high-quality rice seeds, the Office of the Municipal Agricultural Services informed thru a phone interview.
Nasser Rey Juan, Agriculturist II said that the distribution was done on April 7, 12, and 13, 2022, for identified beneficiaries in time for the sowing period.
This assistance to the farmers, he said, came from the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund program of the Department of Agriculture.
The rice seeds include RC 216, 222, 402, 480, and triple-2 varieties.
Juan said that aside from the 7,100 bags of ‘rice seeds’ being distributed in Rizal, around 1,800 were initially given to their farmers, who are set to sow seeds for their palay planting.
“Dagitoy umuna gamin nga agtalon ket siyempre sakbay da a mangrugi i-sure tayo nga adda usaren da a high-quality seeds a mabalin a tumulong kanyada tapnu maaddaan da iti naan-anay nga apit,” he said.
Meanwhile, Juan said that around 400 bags are yet to be given on April 21 or 22, 2022 to those who have not received theirs. He shared that they pre-position the seed bags to the barangays or nearest barangay to make it easier for the farmers to pick up their ‘bin-i’.
“Iti strategy mi i-tatta, i-position mi iti bar-barangay dan wennu nearest barangay a mabalin nga pagpick-up an da tapnu haan dan nga agplete nga umay mangala wennu saan dan ag-gasolina para motor or kuliglig da, Isu nga iti strategy mi ket kitaen min diay kaasitgan, diay accessible kanyada, idiay nga i-position min iti bin-i,” he said.
