Arrested teen rode bicycle from Tuguegarao to buy marijuana in Tabuk

Rizal, Kalinga – A 17-year-old male who rode his bicycle from Tuguegarao to allegedly buy marijuana in Tabuk City was arrested in Sitio Spring, Liwan West, afternoon of Thursday, March 11.

Rizal Police Chief, Police Captain George Acob said, the suspect was intercepted because he was not wearing face mask when he passed through the checkpoint in Spring. He added that the teen also matched the description given by informant about a person who bought marijuana in Ileb, Nambaran that day.

“Nung dumaan na po itong bata na suited po doon sa sinabi ng informant, pinahinto po kasi yung first na offense niya, wala po siyang suot na face mask po,” said Acob.

He relates that the suspect reasoned that he threw his face mask because it got wet and asked the police if he could use his sweatshirt instead.

“Nung pagkuha niya po sa sweatshirt niya sa loob ng bag niya, meron pong nahulog na white plastic bag from doon po sa bag niya and then nung vinerify po nung police po natin, natuklasan po nila na marijuana po,” he said.

The alleged marijuana that include seeds, leaves, and stalks, weighs around 450 grams.

Acob said that the suspect admitted that it was his second time to buy marijuana in the province for personal use. Initial investigation also revealed that suspect is a high school student listed in the drug watchlist of Barangay Cataggaman, Tuguegarao City.

Meanwhile, the police chief urged the public to report to the authorities any knowledge of drug transactions being done, noting that buyers and trafficker, especially the young ones, improvise various ways to buy illegal drugs.

“Kaya ‘yung mga magulang, tignan po natin ‘yung mga anak natin para hindi po sila gumamit ng droga,” he added.

Meantime, the suspect is now detained at the Rizal Municipal Police Station and a case for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against him.
