“As we try to excel in sports, we as well uphold cultural identity”-Gov. Edduba on CARASUC meet 2023

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Gracing the opening of the Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges (CARASUC) at the Kalinga Sports Center, Governor James Edduba on Tuesday reminded participating athletes and artists to uphold cultural identity as they embark on the four-day Athletic Meet and Socio-Cultural Festival 2023.

“As we try to excel in sports, we as well uphold our cultural identity. This is the very essence of this undertaking, in an era of globalization and a modern atmosphere, our youth should be culturally active,” underscored Edduba in his message delivered by Provincial Legal Officer, Atty. John Paul Baguiwan.

This, he explained, is because “our cultural heritage helps us to remember our cultural diversity and develop mutual respect and appreciation of our origins.”

Cultural heritage, he added, implies a shared bond and belonging to a community, representing one’s history and identity. The integrated socio-cultural program in the athletic meet, therefore, adds meaning to the event.

“Maymaysa tayo nga tribu nga yCordillera”

The governor likewise took the opportunity to seek support for their campaign toward self-rule.

“No man pay nagtaud tayo kadagiti agduduma nga probinsya ngem maymaysa tayo nga tribu nga Cordillera. Daytoy met ti maysa nga panggep nu apay nga dagiti imuna nga lideres tayo, tinarigagayan da ti panagbaln tayo nga Cordillera Autonomous Region… nga isu met ti ipagpagna dagiti agdama nga leaders tayo iti rehiyon nga masapul nga suportaran tayo tapnu iti saan nga agbayag magun-udan tayun ti kalkalikaguman tayo nga otonomiya,” he stated.

“Let your passion, determination and discipline shine”

The provincial head then wishes the athletes and artists well as they “inspire the younger generation to dedicate their talents and skills to building a more inclusive, revitalized Cordillera region.”

“Let your passion, determination, and discipline shine in this athletic meet… May this event give rise to an empowered, enlightened youth sector that will take our respective colleges and universities whom we represent, to greater heights,” he concluded.

CARASUC 2023 which is being hosted by Kalinga State University is set to culminate on April 21.
