Aguinaldo, Ifugao – The local government of Aguinaldo, Ifugao under the leadership of Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr. lauded its young athletes for their remarkable achievement during the 2023 Tong-Il Moo Do (TIMD) national championship held in Cebu City on July 20 to 26, 2023.
Eight athletes from town brought home nine gold medals in the national TIMD - a unified martial art discipline from the South Korea.
Among the gold medalists are Layda L. Nunggatang (Individual Senior Novice Women Division), Shaina M. Bumaca (Individual Junior Novice Women Division), both from Monggayang village; Diodi-an L. Nagchay (Individual Junior Novice Women Division), Xian Dave B. Lumayna (Individual Cadet Novice Men Division), both from Jacmal; and Judah Rick C. Bumalin (Individual Senior Novice Men Division) from Damag.
Bumaca likewise grabbed silver medal in the Individual Junior Novice Women Division of Bon competition.
Meanwhile, Erica L. Nunggatang snatch bronze medal in (Individual Cadet Novice Women Division). The same medal was taken by Layda L. Nunggatang in the Individual Senior Novice Women Division, and Roger V. Burgos Jr. in the Individual Senior Advance Men Division. The three are from Monggayang.
Angeline L. Gannaban from Jacmal emerged as fourth placer in Individual Cadet Novice Women Division.
These athletes paid a courtesy call to Mayor Chilagan and the other local officials on Monday.
Chilagan and his constituents congratulated the athletes, including their coaches. As he expressed his delight, he asked them to continue serving as an inspiration to their fellow youth so each member of the sector will turn away from the use of illicit drugs and other misbehaviors that may destroy their future.
To recall, athletes from Aguinaldo and Banaue bagged 13 gold medals in last year’s national TIMD tilt.
