Cagayan, Philippines – The autopsy of the medical health worker of Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) who was found dead in her apartment, revealed that she died of asphyxia by manual strangulation with vaginal trauma.
The victim, identified as Ma. Jennifer Suzette Oñate, was initially reported missing by her husband on April 23. Her body was later discovered at around 5:00 PM on April 25, 2022 in her apartment at Tumanguil Street, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City.
The body was wrapped in a blanket, placed in a box and was hidden under the bed of a room at the apartment, next to her room.
Vilfred Carodan, the occupant of the room where the victim was found was arrested after a hot pursuit operation.
Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported that the suspect admitted his crime before the court. Accordingly, the suspect was drunk from an occasion he attended before he went home on the day of the incident.
Carodan allegedly saw the victim in her nighties, which prompted him to enter her room and raped her.
After committing the crime, the suspect sprayed perfume in his room so his live in partner will not to smell the body of the victim hidden under his bed.
The suspect claimed that he wanted to surrender to the personnel of Scene of Crime Operations (SOCO) during their investigation, but he thought that his partner might be dragged in the case so he went home instead. His live-in partner was on leave.
The suspect is now detained at the Tuguegarao Police Station for proper disposition. Cases of rape and homicide is being filed against him.
Meanwhile, the remains of the victim was already brought to their residence in Gattaran yesterday.
