Baguio born cadet ranks 2nd in PMA “BAGSIK-DIWA” Class of 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – The son of a former Overseas Filipino Worker ranked second in the “BAGSIK-DIWA” (Bagong Sibol Kinabukasan Didigma Hanggang sa Wakas) Class of 2022 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).


Out of the 214 cadets, Cadet 1st Class Kevin John O. Pastrana of Irisan, Baguio City graduated as Salutatorian on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at the Fort Gregorio Del Pilar in Baguio City.


Pastrana was likewise awarded the Vice Presidential Saber, Philippine Air Force Saber, Australian Defence Best Overall Performance, Information Technology Plaque, and Air Force Professional Courses Plaque.

The academy, through its Facebook page, disclosed that the Top 2 cadet was born and raised in the City of Pines. His mother is from Dagdag, Sagada, Mt. Province while his father is from Janipaan East, Mina, Iloilo who used to work abroad.


Accordingly, his humble beginnings and cultural background served as his motivation to excel in every endeavor he may find himself in. As the athletic company officer of Foxtrot Company, he ensured that his Company had a 100% passing rate in all physical-related activities and requirements.


“The greatest lesson that I have learned through those four years of my life here in the academy is the lesson of being able to show to other people how you’re able to build your men in a way that you develop at the same time,” Pastrana shared.

He took to social media his expression of gratitude to his Alma Mater for bringing the best in him, his family, friends, mentors and everyone who helped and encouraged him in his journey.


President Duterte confers house and lot to Class Valedictorian


Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte who graced the 117th PMA Commencement Exercises, conferred the Certificate of House and Lot Ownership to the Class Valedictorian, Cadet 1CL Krystlenn Ivany Quemado from Koronadal City.


In addition, Ensign Quemado got Academic Group Award, Department of Humanities Plaque, Department of Management Plaque, Department of Social Sciences Plaque, Department of Leadership Plaque, Navy Professional Courses Plaque, Joint United States Military Advisory Group (JUSMAG) Award, Association of Generals and Flag Officers (AGFO) Award, Spanish Armed Forces Award, and Australian Defence Best Overall Performance Award.


She challenged the graduates and fellow youth to find the core foundation of their purpose in life and fight for it.

Other than Pastrana, the sons and daughters of Cordillera who graduated as part of the “BAGSIK-DIWA” Class are Cadet 1CL Tristan Chomacog, Cadet 1CL Jen Kym Danielle Danganan, Cadet 1CL Dirk Kiryl Davalan, Cadet 1CL Angelica Villalon, Cadet 1CL Earl Jade Pakoy, and Cadet 1CL Bryson Zantua, all from Baguio City.


Also among the graduates are Cadet 1CL Grace Angela Pocyoy, Cadet 1CL Christian Bisquera, Cadet 1CL Josemhar Tamiray from Benguet; and Cadet 1CL Dawson Adaci and Cadet 1CL Chadbert Liwayan from Ifugao.

Cadet 1CL Maryknoll Rhea Cuis, Cadet 1CL Mariel Bless Bagtang, and Cadet 1CL Jaime Bernardo Jr. from Kalinga likewise graduated along with Cadet 1CL Joshua Clemete Dacawe, Cadet 1CL Knigle Bastian, and Cadet 1CL Julius Kalley Fanusan from Mountain Province.
