Baguio City soldier shot dead in Camarines Sur after fellow soldier ran amok

Baguio City, Philippines – The soldier in Baguio City became a victim of another soldier running amok at Camp Weene Martillana in Camarines Sur.


The remains of the soldier were brought home to Baguio City this morning of June 22.


Army spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad said in the early morning of June 18, Captain Martin Anosa Jr. had an intense fight with his girlfriend.


The woman fled from Anosa and sought help to an office where Major Gary Masedman and Sgt. Manuel Colico were at during that time.

Trinidad said that the girlfriend was unaware that she was followed.


Upon entering the office, Anosa went amok and pulled his gun and fired at Masedman and Colico.


Masedman was killed, while Colico survived the shooting incident.


Masedman is a native of Mountain Province and a resident of San Vicente Baguio City.


He was the executive officer of the 5th Field Service Finance Office in Barangay San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur.


Anosa fled the incident but later found dead in his room in what is believed to be suicide.


In a statement, Trinidad stressed that the incident is an isolated case, adding that the army does not tolerate criminal acts by its personnel and will closely cooperate with the Philippine National Police in the conduct of investigation.
